The dwelling at Moonan’s Cottages underwent a transformation from a small, two-bedroom, single-storey end-of-terrace cottage into a spacious, light-filled home. The property featured a long, narrow rear garden leading to a design which introduces a courtyard around which the extension is arranged, bringing natural light into its centre. To preserve the cottage’s original street presence, a flat roof single-story section of the extension was placed between the cottage and the pitched roof with converted attic addition, creating the illusion of a separate dwelling similar in scale to the original cottage at the rear. This approach maintains the cottage’s individual prominence on the street, with the large extension essentially concealed from view.
