The dwelling at Ballynagrena is situated on an elevated site, offering stunning views of the Cooley Mountains to the north and a small pocket of forest to the south. The design centres around a courtyard, allowing for south-facing windows to the living spaces, while corner windows in both the living areas and the master bedroom maximize the surrounding views. The form and layout draw inspiration from local vernacular architecture, particularly the Irish farmhouse typology, reinterpreted with a contemporary approach. The building's mass is carefully divided into multiple sections to maintain proportions reminiscent of traditional vernacular dwellings, which also helps to minimize the roof ridge height to reduce the visual impact on the landscape.
